BART Service Restored After Train Hits Solar Panel In East Bay
PLEASANT HILL (CBS SF) -- BART officials said service between Concord and Pleasant Hill has been restored Friday afternoon after a train hit a solar panel and shut down service between the two stations.
A BART alert issued at about 2 p.m. stated that service was stopped in both the Pittsburg/Bay Point and SFO directions because of an unspecified equipment problem.
The County Connection provided a bus bridge with buses numbers 11 and 14 between the two stations.
It was later revealed that the issue stemmed from a solar panel. The solar panel apparently fell on the track way, but officials didn't know if the train dislodged it or if fell on its own.
After the BART train struck the panel, it got stuck under train. BART tweeted that service was restored at around 2:30 p.m.
The problem with the train surfaced not far from where a mysterious electrical issue with the track back in March caused service disruptions for two weeks.
