East Oakland Vacant Store Becomes Dumping Ground For Unwanted Pets
OAKLAND (CBS SF)— Unwanted pets are being dumped at a vacant store in East Oakland just steps from a state-of-the-art SPCA animal shelter.
East Bay SPCA officials told the San Francisco Chronicle, if only people knew their facility was around the corner, they might bring the animals to them.
The Pak'n Save in the Colisuem Center between Hegenberger Road and Baldwin has long been a dumping ground for old furniture, and garbage. But East Bay SPCA officials said it is also a place for unwanted pets.
Recently an aging and arthritic pit bull mix was found at the site barely able to walk and dangerously underweight.
SPCA officials found the dog and nursed her back to health. Gracie— the dog— was put up for adoption and found a new home last month.
