Walnut Creek BART Station Reopens After Hours-Long Closure for 'Major Medical Emergency'

WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) -- BART's Walnut Creek station reopened and train service was fully restored in both directions after a "major medical emergency" earlier Saturday involving a person under a train adjacent to the station platform, the transit agency said.

The emergency was first reported about 2:40 p.m. and all trains on the Antioch line were initially stopped.

Trains starting single-tracking through the Walnut Creek station shortly before 4 p.m., a BART spokesman said, and both tracks were reopened shortly after 5 p.m..

BART officials have not explicitly said the person under the train had actually been hit by the train nor have they released the victim's condition.
