Early-Season Fire Scorches Eucalyptus Grove Near Bolinas

MILL VALLEY (CBS SF) -- A wildfire in a remote area near the town of Bolinas burned 3 1/2 acres Sunday before being fully contained by mid-morning, the Marin County Fire Department reported.

The blaze began in a grove of eucalyptus trees a half-mile north of Agate Beach before spreading to near the shoreline.

"Had this fire occurred a little later in the season or during the heat of the day, structures would have been threatened by flying embers," said Mike Giannini, battalion chief with the Marin County Fire Department.

More than 60 firefighting personnel, representing several local and national crews, managed to contain the fire by 10 a.m.

The fire is believed to have been caused by human activity and is under investigation.
