Dungeness Crab Season To Open Between Point Reyes, Salt Point

POINT REYES (KCBS) – A 50-mile section of coastal waters off the North Bay will open to commercial crab fishing on Saturday.

The stretch is from Point Reyes in Marin County north to Salt Point in Sonoma County. It had been closed due to highs levels of domoic acid, a neurotoxin, in crabs caught there.

Commercial crabbers have been able to fish the waters south of Point Reyes since November 15.

The waters from Salt Point north to Humboldt Bay will remain closed as testing there continues.

High levels of domoic acid in crabs last year delayed the season, missing the lucrative holiday periods.
