Dump Truck Crash Knocks 2nd Story Of Sausalito Home Off Its Foundation

SAUSALITO (KPIX 5) -- A dump truck carrying hot asphalt crashed into a house in Sausalito Wednesday afternoon.

The truck crashed into the home on Lower Crescent Avenue around 2:30 p.m. when it lost control at the top of a steep residential area.

The truck rolled backwards before slamming into the top floor of the two-story home, tearing the roof open, and knocking the top floor off its foundation.  Building inspectors were on site because the floor of the home was in danger of collapsing.  Other homes in the area had to be evacuated because of the possibility of the structure shifting down hill.

Two people were inside the home at the time of the crash, but were unhurt.

The driver broke his arm while trying to bail out of the moving truck.
