DUI Driver Hits Workers On I-80 In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- Two subcontractors working on a lane restriping project on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 in Fairfield Thursday evening were struck and injured by an alleged drunk driver, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The contractors, employees of O.C. Jones & Sons, Inc., were closing the second lane of the ramp from eastbound Interstate Highway 80 to eastbound state Highway 12 using a trailer with an arrow board when the collision occurred around 9:15 p.m., CHP Officer Chris Parker said.

The driver of a red Chevy Impala struck the two employees and the arrow board trailer, Parker said.

The two road workers were taken to a North Bay hospital with minor to moderate injuries and the driver of the Impala was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence, Parker said.

The Impala's driver also suffered a broken leg in the crash, Parker said.

The ramp where the collision occurred was closed shortly before 9:30 p.m. due to the crash, Parker said.
