Driver in Santa Rosa crash seriously injured, suspected of DUI

A driver in Santa Rosa was seriously injured after crashing into a tree Friday night, police said on Saturday.

Santa Rosa Police said the crash happened just before midnight, on Bennett Valley Road, west of Yulupa Avenue.

Calls to 911 reported that a maroon Dodge pickup truck crashed into a tree. Officers got to the scene and found the driver was the only person in the vehicle.

First responders rescued him from inside the vehicle and took him to the hospital as he had injuries that were life-threatening.

According to police, investigators looking into the cause of the crash began to suspect the driver was under the influence. Santa Rosa Police said a preliminary screening test of the driver showed he was over four times the legal limit.

Police said the driver was still hospitalized as of Saturday.
