Driver Of Stolen U-Haul Causes Nasty Pile-Up In Oakland Crash

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- The driver of a stolen U-Haul vehicle was taken into police custody after crashing into multiple vehicles near Highland Hospital in Oakland Thursday morning, a police spokesman said.

Oakland police Officer Frank Bonifacio said the suspect was driving the stolen vehicle at a high rate of speed when he lost control and the vehicle left the roadway.

The driver struck multiple vehicles and a PG&E pole at the intersection of 14th Avenue and East 30th Street. The suspect was taken to the hospital and will be arrested for vehicle theft, Bonifacio said.

Bonifacio said U-Haul reported the vehicle stolen out of Vallejo.

The incident remains under investigation, he said.
