Driver Evades Police During Chase In Pacheco

PACHECO (CBS SF) -- A motorist evaded Pleasant Hill police officers Tuesday morning during a pursuit that began with an attempted traffic stop in the unincorporated area of Pacheco, according to police.

At 10:27 a.m., a Pleasant Hill police officer tried to pull over a silver 2015 Chrysler 200 near First Avenue North and Pacheco Boulevard, but the driver fled, police said.

The vehicle was pursued by officers onto southbound Interstate Highway 680, where the motorist maneuvered around spike strips that were set up, according to police.

Police said the officers terminated the pursuit shortly after the vehicle headed toward westbound state Highway 24. The vehicle was last seen traveling in the direction of the Caldecott Tunnel in Orinda.

The vehicle was apparently registered to a car rental company and police are working to identify the renter.

The driver was described by police as a white man with brown hair and an unshaven face. He was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt with yellow writing on it.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Pleasant Hill police at (925) 288-4600.
