Drifters Charged In 2 Murders Appear In Court, Gory Details Surface

MARIN (KPIX 5) -- Some gruesome new details were revealed at the preliminary hearing of two drifters charged in the murders of a woman who was camping in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park and a man who was hiking in Marin County last year.

The suspects faced a Marin County judge on Tuesday, and the courtroom was full of gory details about the crimes.

Morrison Lampley and Lila Alligood are charged with murder and an accomplice to murder of 72-year-old Steven Carter.

Carter was shot while he was hiking near Fairfax in October 2015.

Marin County Sheriff's Office detective Scott Buer said, "The male was shot and bloody. The dog was also shot and bloody and was taken away."

We now know Alligood and Lampley were dating and detectives say she tried to pin the murder on their third friend and fellow drifter, Anglin, to protect her boyfriend.

Alligood was in tears through most of the preliminary hearing, while Lampley tried to stare our cameras down.

Detectives say the trio used bloody money and credit cards stolen from Carter for gas and food at McDonalds. A bullet went through Carter's wallet while it was still on his body.

Lampley is accused of pulling the trigger, something the defense denies but that neither attorney would speak of after court.

The third sudpect, Anglin, took a plea deal. In exchange for 15 years behind bars, he will testify against his two co-defendants.

The preliminary hearing continues later in the week.
