'Dreaded Bandit' Bank Robbery Suspect Captured In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A brazen bank robbery suspect nicknamed the "Dreaded Bandit" has been arrested in San Francisco, the FBI announced Monday.

The suspect, whose nickname refers to his habit of wearing disguises including makeup and fake dreadlocks, has been identified as 57-year-old San Francisco resident Andre Mitchell Brown - a parolee on active federal probation for armed bank robbery.

Brown is wanted in connection with a series of takeover-style robberies, including two in June and July at the same Comerica Bank branch on Union Street in San Francisco.

In each of those robberies, Brown allegedly displayed a handgun and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to the FBI.

Investigators were able to recover surveillance images of the suspect from those robberies.

Brown is also believed to have robbed the Provident Credit Union at 2727 S. El Camino Real in San Mateo on May 12 and the First Republic Bank at 2001 Van Ness Ave. in San Francisco on April 22, according to the FBI.San Francisco police said they arrested Brown Friday afternoon in the 5400 block of Geary Boulevard in San Francisco's Richmond District.

Investigators made that arrest around 2:30 p.m. after conducting surveillance, during which Brown allegedly approached the bank wearing a wig and fake mustache.

A search allegedly revealed he was in possession of a loaded black revolver, police said.

Javier Jenkins, 44, was also arrested on suspicion of acting as Brown's getaway driver.
