California Secretary Of State Blasts Trump Claiming Voter Fraud Without Evidence
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – President-elect Donald Trump's tweets alleging voter fraud are not getting much traction with California's Secretary of State.
Mr. Trump asserted Sunday he would have won the popular vote on top of winning the Electoral College. The President-elect also claimed "millions of people" illegally voted for Hillary Clinton in California, along with New Hampshire and Virginia.
Late Sunday, California Secretary of State Alex Padilla issued a statement responding to Trump's tweets, saying: "It appears that Mr. Trump is troubled by the fact that a growing majority of Americans did not vote for him."
Padilla went on to say Trump's "unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud in California and elsewhere are absurd." Padilla says Trump's "reckless tweets are inappropriate and unbecoming of a President-elect."
The state of Wisconsin is expected to begin a vote recount this week, following a request from Green Party nominee Jill Stein. Stein also wants recounts in Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Clinton's campaign has joined the recount effort.
