Domestic Violence Suspect Fatally Shot By Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy In San Leandro

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) - The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting of a man suspected of beating a woman in San Leandro on Thursday afternoon.

Alameda County Sheriff's Sgt. JD Nelson said it happened around 3 p.m., near the corner of E. 14th Street and 167th Avenue.

"We've had multiple calls of a man that was beating on a woman, beating her in the head, and she was bleeding," Nelson said. "When deputies got there, the situation deteriorated very quickly."

Nelson said it's unclear if arriving deputies saw the man with a gun, or just felt their lives were in danger. One deputy pulled out his gun and fatally shot the suspect.

Ming Wu, a Chinese tourist was buying a car when he witnessed the beating. "There was a guy trying to pull a woman from out of her car and he heard screaming from the lady," he said.

Nelson said the woman was taken to nearby Eden Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.  Her condition is unknown at this time.
