Dog Survives After Being Tossed From Highway Overpass In Antioch

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- A small dog will need surgery after apparently being thrown from a highway overpass in Antioch over the weekend, according to animal control officials.

Contra Costa County Animal Services said people on the scene reported the one-year-old Australian Shepherd was tossed from an overpass along Highway 4 over the weekend.

However, no witnesses have come forward to verify the claims and animal services officers are investigating.

Preliminary x-rays showed the one-year-old Australian Shepherd suffered a fractured femur and dislocated wrist, along with other trauma.

The dog will require surgery to recover from its injuries and animal services said it was working to set up a fund to cover the costs.

Those interested in donating were urged to contact Louise McGuire at lamcg@att.net.
