Dog Chased On SFO Tarmac After Escaping Kennel, Found Safe—Headed To Austin
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— A dog that managed to get out of its kennel at San Francisco International Airport led airport crews on a chase around some of the runways for a few minutes Friday morning.
According to SFO spokesman Doug Yakel, the dog was being transferred from a smaller kennel to a larger one as he was being loaded into the cargo area when it escaped around 10:35 a.m.
During the escape, a few planes in the process of taking off had to make an extra circle around while crews corralled the pooch.
It took crews about 10 minutes to round him up. No take-offs or landings were delayed as a result, according to the SFO duty manager. However, the dog missed his flight to Austin, Texas. The owner has since been notified their pet is doing fine back in its kennel and has been booked on the next flight to their destination.
Airport officials said that while this isn't the first time an animal has managed to get out of the kennel, it's a pretty rare occurrence.
