Disabled Woman Facing Eviction Expected To Be Removed From Her SF Apartment Wednesday
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Dozens of people in San Francisco are standing up for a disabled woman about to get evicted Wednesday.
With signs in hand, demonstrators lined up on the steps of her apartment on Guerrero St. near 20th at 6 a.m.
The woman, who's in her late 50s, has been living there for more than 25 years. Google employee Jack Halprin bought the property in 2012 for $1.4 million. He served tenants Ellis Act eviction notices in February 2014.
Other residents in the building have fought the evictions, but neighbors say she has a mental disability that prevented her from filing appeal papers.
"She's not getting the same legal aid that the rest of us are as a result of her disability," housing advocate Evan Wolkenstein said.
Sheriff Mirkarimi has not removed the woman from her studio apartment yet, but he's expected to show up some time Wednesday.
