Deer Found Dead In Hillsborough Likely Killed By Mountain Lion

HILLSBOROUGH (CBS SF) -- Hillsborough police report that a mountain lion is most likely responsible for killing a deer whose body was discovered on a resident's walkway Sunday morning.

The resident, who lives on Crystal Drive, believes the deer carcass was left on the walkway some time after midnight.

In light of this incident police are reminding people to take a number of precautions to protect themselves from mountain lions.

These include:

  • Do not approach mountain lions, especially if they are feeding or with offspring.
  • Avoid hiking or jogging at dawn, dusk or at night when mountain lions are most active.
  • Keep a close watch on small children.
  • Do not run from an encounter.

Instead, face the animal, make noise, try to look bigger by waving your arms and throw rocks or other objects.
