Dedicated A's Fan Gets 9 Stitches After Taking Bat To The Face During Game
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A dedicated A's fan received nine stitches after getting hit in the face with a chunk of a broken bat during a game at the Oakland Coliseum.
The former grammar school nurse received nine stitches in the A's locker room after a Rockies player's bat broke apart at the top of the fourth inning.
She refused to go to the emergency room because everytime she goes to an A's game, the team wins, she told KPIX 5's Roberta Gonzales.
The A's were involved in perhaps the most serious injury of the season last month when the bat of Brett Lawrie hurtled into the stands in Boston and left a woman with what were initially described as life-threatening head injuries.
The Red Sox fan, Tonya Carpenter, was released from the hospital less than a week later.
