San Jose Man Arrested After Dead Cat Found In His Car

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A man has been arrested in the killing of a cat in San Jose weeks after someone matching his description was seen snatching a cat from outside a residence, according to police.

San Jose resident Robert Farmer, 24, was arrested Thursday morning after police found him sleeping in car in the area of Hillsdale and Leigh Avenues. A dead cat was found inside his car.

Investigators had identified Farmer as a possible suspect following the theft of an orange tabby cat, Gogo, from a home on the 1600 block of Hyacinth Lane last month.

Surveillance video from the location showed a man luring the cat and then grabbing and running away with it.

Police said several people contacted the department to provide information about a possible suspect.

Investigators have not yet confirmed the identity of the dead cat or its owner, and do not know whether Farmer is responsible for other missing or dead cat reported to San Jose Police.

Farmer faces one felony count of animal cruelty.

Police urge anyone who may have information about the case to contact the department.
