Dead Body Found In Los Gatos Creek; Man May Have Ridden Off Edge

LOS GATOS (CBS SF) -- A man's body was found in Los Gatos Creek County Park in Campbell on Sunday morning, a police spokesman said Monday.

Officers responded to a report of a body in the percolation ponds at the park off of Dell Avenue at 7:40 a.m. Sunday, police Capt. Gary Berg said.

Arriving officers found the body of a man in his 40s floating in the water, which was about 3 feet deep, according to Berg.

Investigators from the Police Department and the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office were called to the scene, Berg said.

It appeared the death was accidental because the man had no injuries that were consistent with a struggle, according to Berg.

A bike was found near the water and he may have ridden off the land's edge before ending up in the water, Berg said.

He may have been at the pond through the overnight hours, the spokesman said.

The medical examiner's office has not released his name and is working on notifying his next of kin.

Anyone who has information that can assist in the death investigation is asked to call police dispatch at (408) 866-2101.
