Dead Body Found In Backseat Of Burning Car In Richmond

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- Firefighters found a dead body in the backseat of a car on fire Thursday afternoon in Richmond, a police sergeant said.

Fire crews responded around 12:30 p.m. to a report of a car on fire in the 200 block of West Nevin Avenue, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

Abetkov said the firefighters began to extinguish the fire and as they did so, they noticed a body in the backseat.

The person was dead by the time firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, she said.

Detectives are working to determine the cause of the fire, Abetkov said.

No information about the person's identity was immediately available, she said.
