Daly City Police Fatally Shoot Dog That Mauled Man In Backyard
DALY CITY (CBS SF) – Daly City police officers fatally shot a dog that mauled and critically injured a man in the backyard of a home Monday morning, police said.
Officers responded around 7 a.m. to a report of a loose dog attacking someone in the 900 block of Schwerin Street and arrived to find the dog attacking a 40-year-old man in a rear yard, according to police.
The victim's father identified him as 30-year-old Gil Galang, a certified nursing assistant. Gil's father, Avelino Galang, said his son was in the backyard with his dog when another dog broke through their back fence and attacked.

Fearing for the safety of the man, the officers fired their service weapons, killing the dog. They then started life-saving measures on the man, who was then taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.
A neighbor, who spoke off camera, said she heard the screams and called 911. While she was on phone with dispatchers, she heard gunshots.
Gil suffered bites to his arms, legs, back and abdomen.
"When they had him laying down, you see all his wounds. His arm, it was like open. Like you see flesh. It was tough to see," she said.
Investigators late Monday morning said they were interviewing the owner of the dog.
As of early Monday evening, Daly City Police have yet to offer any comment on the department's use of force policy when it comes to duty weapons and dog maulings.
