Daily Madden: World Cup Fever Is Contagious

(KCBS) - It's estimated 25 million people worldwide watched the U.S.-Portugal World Cup match Sunday.

"Off the charts," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew, noting that the popularity of the World Cup is evident everywhere. "You can see that. You can see the passion of the players, the passion of the fans that go to the games in the stands, and then the passion of the people who watch it on television...in parks, in bars, just all over the place."

After their 2-2 draw with Portugal, the U.S. plays Germany Thursday. A win or a draw will assure the U.S. a spot in the next round.

"It's something that has just caught everyone's imagination. I think it's always been there... but I think it exploded into more than anyone had to expect." (7:05)
