Daily Madden: RG III's Cloudy Future

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Washington coach Jay Gruden has announced quarterback Colt McCoy will start Sunday's game against Indianapolis, leaving the future of Robert Griffin III in doubt.

"He'll probably be better off going elsewhere," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "When you take an RG III, you have to have a system for him and you have to play that system. You can't just take him and plug him into a system. You have to take his system and plug everyone else into it. And that could have worked had he not had the injuries... After he has a couple of surgeries, you can't play that type of football anymore."

"I think his days are probably done there in Washington, and I don't know what the future holds for him in the NFL. That's a lot of gloom and doom for the day before Thanksgiving, but things don't look too bright for RG III."

Can the 2011 Heisman winner and number two draft pick adjust his style of play to succeed with another team?

"What does he change into?" John said. "He's not going to go from quarterback that moves and runs and scrambles and throws to Peyton Manning... He can't be the old RG III, but he's not going to be Peyton Manning and Drew Brees and Tom Brady and that kind of quarterback either." (7:05)
