Daily Madden: Kaepernick Shines As Running Game Stalls

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The 49ers bounced back from a 14-point first quarter deficit to beat the Rams 31-17 in St. Louis Monday night. As the running game faltered, quarterback Colin Kaepernick brought the team back to life.

"(The Rams) were stacked up playing the run," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "The Rams were saying, 'Look, the 49ers are really a running team, we have to stop the run, we're going to take that away.' Well in doing so, you let Kaepernick have his night."

While the 49er running backs combined for only 52 yards, Kaepernick threw for 343 and three TDs, and ran three times for 37 yards. "I'm impressed with Kaepernick," Madden said. "I think if you look at him and you try and compare him to the beautiful quarterbacks that do everything smoothly and perfectly, you're going to say he's not the same as them, and he's not. But some of the skills that he has in being able to move and run and throw accurately off different angles is really, really impressive... Every time I watch Kaepernick play, I'm impressed by something -- it's one of those, 'Wow, did you just see that?'"
