Daily Madden: Jumping On World Cup Bandwagon

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Mexico held off Brazil in an action-packed 0-0 draw in World Cup play Tuesday, and well-known soccer unenthusiast John Madden was among the TV spectators.

"It would be easy for me to say yeah it was so exciting -- no scoring," Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "But it was good... Everyone is talking about (the World Cup) and everyone can't be wrong."

"People in stores and bars and out on the streets and sidewalks and parks and everyplace, they're watching this and rooting for it and so passionate about it. And then I'm not, and I think jeez, I can't be right on this one," he said.

Madden said he's impressed by the stadium atmosphere. "Do you feel sometimes the fans in the stands just go to have a party around a game? You know how when you have a party you always have to have a theme? Maybe the theme is the soccer game, and it's a party... The NFL could learn from that."

Listen to the John Madden segment live weekday mornings at 8:15 on KCBS All News 740 AM/106.9 FM.
