Daily Madden: John Understands Harbaugh's 'Recessive Gene'

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - In his weekly meeting with reporters Monday, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh didn't have much to say about reports he could be traded to the Raiders or Jets.

"There's all this stuff swirling around," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "You don't know what he knows or what he doesn't know or what he's thinking or what he's not."

Harbaugh told reporters he has a 'recessive gene' when worrying about his future.

"You don't have a lot of time to do that," Madden said.

With four games to play, the 49ers are two behind the NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals and one game behind the Seahawks.

"We always talk about (how) we can't have distractions. Well, you know, that's really a distraction. And when it comes into your mind, you got to just get it out of your mind. If you wonder what that recessive gene does, that's what the recessive gene does. Because stuff can sneak in your head, you know like through your ears. And then you have this recession gene that pushes it back out so you don't have a distraction so you can concentrate."

The 49ers play the Raiders in Oakland Sunday. (7:05)
