Daily Madden: It Takes A Special Athlete To Play On Both Sides Of The Ball

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - He's been called the best athlete in the Pac-12.

He is UCLA's Myles Jack, last year's conference freshman of the year on both offense and defense.

"You really have to be special to do that," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "You have to be the best on defense and the best on offense."

Jack plays both linebacker and running back.

"The tough part you have with that is where do you go to the meeting. Because everyone meets at the same time. When you break up, you break up into offense and defense, and then you break up into linebackers, defensive backs, linemen and so on. How much time do you spend in one meeting? And then you're missing time in that other meeting room. Playing is one thing. Learning how to play or learning what to do on plays is another thing. And sometimes that's the toughest part." Listen to the John Madden segment live weekday mornings at 8:15 and Monday and Friday mornings at 9:15 on KCBS All News 740 AM/106.9 FM.
