Daily Madden: Is Thursday Night Football Unfair To The Visiting Team?

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Indianapolis Colts are favored to beat the Texans in Houston Thursday night. But John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew he thinks the Colts are starting the game at a disadvantage.

"I'm not sure that there's not a competitive issue here," Madden said. "I don't know that it's not an advantage -- a real competitive advantage -- to be at home, to not have to be the traveling team on a Thursday night."

In addition to the travel issue, John said the short turn-around is hard on players on both teams whose bodies are still recovering from the previous Sunday game.

"It's (also) the players that get hurt on Sunday that aren't ready to play on Thursday," John said. "Last week that happened to Minnesota. Their quarterback -- Teddy Bridgewater -- he got hurt on Sunday, could have played the next Sunday, but wasn't ready to play on Thursday." (6:30)
