Daily Madden: Chuck Noll Was A Model Coach

(KCBS) - Funeral services were held near Pittsburgh Tuesday for NFL Hall of Fame coach Chuck Noll, who died over the weekend at age 82.

"He wins four Super Bowls and we had some great battles over the years," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew about the long-time Steelers coach. "But it was never about him. It was about fundamentals, teaching, and the team. He was something special."

Madden sees similarities between Noll and NBA champion Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

"I think the model out there now is the Spurs. If you could go back and coach and you could teach any way and win any way, I would like to coach the way Popovich coaches and win the way the Spurs win... It's not about 'me.' It's about preparation and teaching and those types of things." (7:35)

Listen to the John Madden segment live weekday mornings at 8:15 on KCBS All News 740 AM/106.9 FM.
