Daily Madden: Are NFL Dynasties A Thing Of The Past?

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Joe Montana told the NFL Network he thinks the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks could be the NFL's next dynasty team.

"I don't know that there will be another dynasty," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "It's going to be a lot tougher than the days when the 49ers were a dynasty."

That was in the 1980s, with Joe Montana at quarterback leading the 49ers to four Super Bowl titles. Madden said free agency and the salary cap have changed the equation.

"You can't keep them all happy," Madden said of a team's star players. "You can't sign them all. So you really have to manage that and you have to make some very tough decisions that if there were no salary cap you wouldn't make... You have to choose. Okay, the money is going to go here, the money is going to go there. So after the money goes here and the money goes there, then there's no more left to take care of these (other) guys. So you have to let them go." (6:50)
