Daily Madden: A Lot Of Questions In NFC West

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The 49ers play the 3-6 Giants in New York Sunday with a chance to move up in the NFC West standings.

"If you're going to have a good season and get a number of wins, you definitely have to win the games you should win, and this is one of them," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "The Giants are really struggling. Even though you're playing in New York and so on, and any team can on any given Sunday can beat another team, I really think that's all the Giants have going here."

The 49ers trail the Seahawks by one game as Seattle prepares to play the Chiefs in Kansas City.

"(The Chiefs) could help the 49ers," Madden said. "Kansas City I think does a lot of it with coaching, and Seattle is having a disappointing year... Just a couple of months ago, everyone thought that Seattle was the best team in football, including me, and then a very close second was the 49ers... As we let it play out, we're finding out those things aren't true and now both of those teams are struggling."

The 8-1 Arizona Cardinals lead the Seahawks by two games and the 49ers by three as they host the 7-2 Detroit Lions. But they'll be relying on backup quarterback Drew Stanton with Carson Palmer out for the season with a torn ACL. (6:30)
