Crews Battle 1,000-Acre Grass Fire Near Lake Berryessa; Dozens Of Homes Evacuated

WINTERS (CBS SF) -- A vegetation fire that started on Friday night in parts of Solano County was burning through 1,000 acres and 10 percent contained as of Saturday morning, Cal Fire officials said.

The fire off of state Highway 128 at Monticello Dam in an area near the southeast shore of Lake Berryessa was reported around 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to Cal Fire.

The blaze covers an area where the Solano, Napa and Yolo county lines converge, Cal Fire officials said.

A mandatory evacuation has been ordered for 30 residences in Golden Bear Estates in the city of Winters in Yolo County, according to Cal Fire.

There are 25 fire engines, six crews and six dozers at the scene, Cal Fire officials said.

State Highway 128 is closed between the city of Winters and state Highway 121 as fire crews battle the blaze, according to Cal Fire.
