Highway 12 In Fairfield Reopens After 4-Alarm Grass Fire Shuts Down Lanes

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- Both directions of state Highway 12 in Fairfield have reopened following a four-alarm grass fire Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fire was reported around 1:50 p.m. in a grassy area off of Highway 12 near Beck Avenue, according to a Fairfield Fire Department dispatcher.

As the blaze grew, nearby homes on James Street were evacuated, the dispatcher said.

The fire prompted the shutdown of Highway 12 from Beck Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
