Stolen Car Chase In Martinez Results In Multiple Vehicle Crash On Highway 4

MARTINEZ (CBS SF) -- A suspect has been apprehended this evening after crashing into multiple vehicles on state Highway 4 in Martinez while being pursued by Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The call came in around 5:25 p.m., according to the CHP.

Sheriff's deputies were pursuing a stolen vehicle on eastbound Highway 4 when it crashed into other vehicles just west of Interstate Highway 680.

The suspect reportedly tried to flee the scene of the crash on foot but was apprehended shortly afterward.

The CHP could not immediately confirm the number of victims injured in the crash, but there were reports of multiple injuries.

At least a dozen CHP and emergency vehicles were seen at the location of the crash in video shot by Chopper 5. All eastbound traffic was being diverted off of Highway 4 at the site of the crash.

All lanes were reopened on Highway 4 by about 7:00 p.m.
