ANTIOCH – A shooting on state Highway 4 in Oakley and a subsequent crash in Antioch injured two people and blocked traffic during the Monday morning commute, the California Highway Patrol said.

The shooting happened at about 5:30 a.m. and involved two vehicles traveling westbound on Highway 4 near state Highway 160. Officers arrived at the crash scene and found the passenger in the GMC had been shot with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver only minor injuries in the crash. Both were taken to a local hospital.

The CHP said no motive has yet to be determined in the shooting, and the suspect has not been found.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident was urged to call the CHP Investigation Tipline at (707) 917-4491.

Another unrelated crash on Highway 4 near Sand Creek Road in Brentwood around 6:25 a.m. shut down all four westbound lanes. Both incidents led to lengthy delays.

Around 7 a.m., the CHP reported that all lanes on westbound Highway 4 had reopened but traffic issues remained.
