Embattled Ex-CPUC Chief Michael Peevey To Be Honored For 'Lifetime Of Service' At San Francisco Dinner
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Amid accusations of being too cozy with the power companies he regulated, former California Public Utilities Commission president Michael Peevey will be the guest of honor at a dinner in San Francisco on Thursday.
The dinner is set to take place at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in the Merchant Exchange Building on California Street. Emceeing the event will be former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown.
An invitation said the dinner was to honor Peevey for "a lifetime of service to the people of California."
According to the Sacramento Bee, the dinner's sponsors include current CPUC president Michael Pickler and Kathleen Brown, former state treasurer and Gov. Jerry Brown's sister.
Peevey stepped down from the CPUC late last year. The former president is under fire for alleged backdoor dealings with PG&E in the wake of the 2010 San Bruno pipeline explosion that killed eight people.
Earlier this year, investigators filed a search warrant and seized a list of items form Peevey's Southern California home, including computers, a thumb drive, notes and six years worth of day planners.
Investigators are also looking into a meeting involving Peevey and an executive with Southern California Edison in 2013 about problems at the San Onofre nuclear power plant. They were required to tell the public about their talk, but the meeting was not revealed until this week.
The cost to attend the dinner is $250, with proceeds going to the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley.
