Contra Costa Humane Society Urges Adoptions As Dogs, Cats Face Euthanasia At Crowded Shelters

PLEASANT HILL (KPIX 5) -- Animal shelters around the Bay Area are seeing an influx of dogs and cats to the point of overcrowding, and are urging people to consider adopting or fostering an animal.

The Contra Costa Humane Society in Pleasant Hill is at its maximum capacity and says summer is a specifically tough time for animal shelters

"After July 4th and all the noise from fireworks we always have runaway animals", said Steve Amos, a Humane Society board member. "But this year for some reason it's worse."

If not adopted many of these animals at public shelters will have to be euthanized, and Humane Society officials said the crowded animal shelter situation is Bay Area-wide.
