Commercial Filming Causes Weekend Backup On Bay Bridge

OAKLAND (KPIX 5) -- A scheduled commercial filming brought weekend traffic heading toward the Bay Bridge to a halt early Saturday.

CHP officers prevented anyone from passing as the commercial was shot on the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge, causing traffic to back up as far away as Albany.

Caltrans says the public wasn't warned about the shoot because of the timing.

"We were expecting it to be low traffic on a Saturday morning at 5:30 in the morning," Myeast McCauley of Caltrans said, adding "when the permit was issued for the commercial, it was determined 5:30 am was operable or feasible for the traveling public as well as a low traffic pattern."
