Comedy Group Pushes To Honor Robin Williams With Golden Gate Park Signage

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The late Robin Williams was a silent benefactor of and frequent performer at Comedy Day in San Francisco, and now the organizers want to name the venue, known as Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park, in his honor.

Robin Williams would show up unannounced for Comedy Day to the delight of the audience and the other performers.

Now Comedy Day executive producer Debi Durst is leading the charge to raise $100,000 "So we can change all the signage to reflect Robin Williams Meadow and perhaps have something like a giant boulder with a plaque attached to it."

The San Francisco native emphasizes this is not technically a re-naming of Sharon Meadow. She says it's only known that way because it's next to the Sharon arts building. Parks officials seem to agree. Durst hopes to convince the Board of Supervisors to approve Robin Williams Meadow in time for the 37th annual Comedy Day, a year from now.
