Cold Air Mass Settles Over California After Storm Drops Rain, Snow On State

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- A cold, dry air mass has settled over California in the aftermath of the storm that brought widespread rain and snow to the state.

The National Weather Service issued frost advisories for portions of the Central Coast and areas north of San Francisco Bay.

In the Eastern Sierra, the Mammoth Mountain ski area opened a week early. The resort reported it was 16 degrees at the main lodge at 6 a.m.

A freeze warning was also posted early Thursday for the Antelope Valley in the high desert north of Los Angeles. It was later reduced to freeze watch, but forecasters said several hours of temperatures as low as 27 would be possible early Friday.

Northeast of Los Angeles, Mountain High ski area was making snow and planned to open Friday.
