Coast Guard Calls Off Search For Mystery Plane That Crashed In San Pablo Bay

SAN PABLO (CBS SF) – Reports of a plane crashing into San Pablo Bay Thursday afternoon have been determined to be unfounded, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

The search was launched after Contra Costa County teacher called just after noon Thursday to report her students had seen a plane spiraling out of control into the water, Coast Guard Lt. Luciana Ganley said.

Boats from the county, the Coast Guard, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a Coast Guard helicopter participated in the search, Ganley said. The Coast Guard was providing air support for the search as well, according to radio traffic.
