Coast Guard Rescues Couple, Dog From Boat In Grizzly Bay

GRIZZLY BAY (CBS SF) - A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew rescued a man, woman and dog Friday night after their boat became disabled in Grizzly Bay near Suisun City.

Officers at the Coast Guard's Vallejo station called the Sector San Francisco Command Center on Friday night to report that they were searching for a disabled 19-foot recreational boat with two people aboard.

The officers in Vallejo also said that the remote location of the boat in shallow water would make a rescue by boat difficult, according to the Coast Guard.

Officials from Air Station San Francisco sent a Coast Guard helicopter to the scene to assist the stranded boaters.

The crew was able to find the boat around 10:50 p.m. and safely hoisted both boaters and their dog, Pritzie, onto the helicopter, Coast Guard officials said.

From there, the man and woman and their pet were taken to Buchanan Field Airport in Concord, where they were reunited with family members.

Petty Officer Third Class Corey Fix, an aviation survival technician who took part in the rescue, said in a statement that the incident was the first time he'd had the chance to rescue a dog.

"I'll always remember this case," Fix said.
