Coast Guard Rescues 2 Surfers At Gray Whale Cove

PACIFICA (CBS SF) -- U.S. Coast Guard crews rescued two surfers Saturday afternoon at a beach between Pacifica and Moss Beach, Coast Guard officials said.

A Good Samaritan reported the surfers in distress at 3:04 p.m. drifting north from Montara State Beach toward Gray Whale Cove State Beach.

The Coast Guard deployed a rescue boat and a rescue helicopter, which located the surfers at Gray Whale Cove State Beach, according to Coast Guard officials.

The crew lowered a rescue swimmer who assessed the condition of the surfers. One surfer was taken by helicopter to Stanford Medical Center with possible signs of hypothermia, Coast Guard officials said.

The other surfer was treated nearby.
