Coast Guard Planning Temporary Safe Zone Around SF's Ferry Plaza For New Year's Eve Fireworks

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The United States Coast Guard is planning to establish a temporary safety zone around San Francisco's Ferry Plaza on Thursday night for a New Year's Eve fireworks display.

The safety zone will extend 1,000 feet out from a point in the waters off the Ferry Plaza and Pier 14 beginning at 11:59 p.m. Thursday and continuing until 12:30 a.m. Friday.

During that time boaters will be unable enter the safety zone without authorization from the Captain of the Port of San Francisco, according to Coast Guard officials.

Anyone with questions about the safety zone can contact the Coast Guard Sector San Francisco Waterways Safety Branch at (415) 399-3585 or send email to d11-smb-sectorsf-waterwaysafety@uscg.mil.
