CHP Rescues Loose Pig Along Highway 12 In Sonoma County

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) – A California Highway Patrol officer rescued a wayward farm animal wandering along state Highway 12 near Santa Rosa Friday morning.

Around 9 a.m., Officer Ken Enger responded to a call reporting a loose pig on the highway, near Merced Avenue, according to Enger.

When Enger arrived, he found the large animal lying near the highway. "He was sleeping in the sun, on the right shoulder, relaxing," Enger said.

He estimated the animal weighs somewhere between 600 and 800 pounds.

Sonoma County Animal Services responded and has since taken custody of the pig. They're currently looking for its owner, according to Enger.
