CHP Motorcyle Officer Hurt In Crash On Highway 101 In San Mateo

SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer has been injured in a crash on U.S. Highway 101 in San Mateo Monday.

The CHP Redwood City said the officer had suffered "major injuries" in the collision on southbound 101 at 3rd Ave at around 10:20 a.m. Later the CHP clarified that the officer had suffered a broken arm and was being treated at Stanford hospital.

The motorcycle officer collided with a gray 2018 Volkswagen Golf, according to CHP spokesman Officer Kurt Waldschmitt. The VW driver was the only occupant of the car. He remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, Waldschmitt said.

The two right lanes of the highway were blocked during the incident investigation and there is no estimate on when they might reopen, Waldschmitt said.

The crash was backing up traffic in both directions on 101.
