CHP Patrol Car Strikes, Kills Elderly Man Outside Restaurant Near Half Moon Bay

HALF MOON BAY (CBS/AP/BCN) -- The California Highway Patrol says one of its officers struck and killed a pedestrian as he crossed a coastal highway in Half Moon Bay.

Authorities say a 74-year-old man from Burlingame was leaving a wedding reception at Sam's Chowder House Saturday night when he was hit by a northbound CHP patrol car on Highway 1 north of Half Moon Bay.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

Highway 1 was closed in both directions for about four hours during the investigation.
