CHP Chopper Crew Rescues Hunter Accidentally Shot Near Lake Berryessa

NAPA (CBS/AP) -- A 70-year-old hunter was accidentally shot Saturday morning by one of his companions in a remote part of Napa County north of Lake Berryessa, the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat reports.

The Napa Sheriff's Department says the Sacramento man was shot on the opening day of deer season when one of the other hunters in his party dropped his rifle.

The victim was identified as Margarito Vazquez.

The incident took place about 15 miles north of Lake Berryessa, near the Yolo County line.

A CHP helicopter landed nearby and was able to take the injured man to a local trauma center. He was reported to be in serious condition.
